First Foiling Test of the Flyte Catamaran with a 49er Sailor
"First time helming Flyte as a 49er sailor. Takeoff was smooth and foiling felt natural."
On-water clips and notes from sailors. What it feels like to fly, learn, and push.
Jakub "Kuba" Surowiec (A-Class world champion) and Tymoteusz Bendyk have tested Flyte and shared their impressions.
Flyte is a lightweight foiling catamaran, weighing around 50 kg less than an F18 and 20 kg lighter than a Nacra 17. This makes it easier to handle on land and improves performance in light wind conditions. On the water, the combination of reduced weight and high platform stiffness contributes to smoother, more controllable foiling.
Unlike other two-handed catamarans limited by strict class rules, Flyte uses modern design tools and integrated hardware, from digital workflows to mechatronics. The setup is simple with fewer control lines and servo-assisted adjustments that reduce manual work.
Foil height is largely self-regulating. With wind and height sensors, the system can hold consistent foiling behavior. Two sailing modes:
Flyte is adaptable with software updates and modular components. A flexible platform for evolving sailing tech.
"As an ILCA sailor, first time in trapeze, first time on a cat, this was quite a new experience. What stunned me most was how fast the boat foiled in even light winds"
